Arctic wolves have a countercurrent heat exchanger in their paws, another element evolution has created to allow their paws to stay at a lower temperature than their body's core. As their blood enters their paws it 'heats up' and avoids heat loss at the extremities. Because heat loss is reduced, their paws never 'stick' to the icy frozen tundra.
