USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75)

The Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) departed Norfolk VA on April 11th 2018 at the beginning of her eighth deployment cycle. HST remained at sea for three months making port calls to Souda Bay and Marseille before returning to Norfolk VA on July 21st for an extended working port visit.

The USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) returned to the U.S. Sixth Fleet Area of Operations (AOO) on August 28th and continued to support the NATO alliance before anchoring in the Solent for a four-day visit to Portsmouth on October 6th.

For the first time in nearly 30 years a U.S. aircraft carrier entered the Arctic Circle when the HSTCSG started operating in the Norwegian Sea on October 19th. USS America (CV-66) was the last ship to operate in the area during Exercise North Star 91 in September 1991.

HSTCSG joined thirty NATO allies and partner nations to participate in Exercise Trident Juncture 18 on October 25th to November 23rd.

HST anchored off the coast of Lisbon on November 10th for a scheduled port visit.

The strike group's presence in European waters was the execution of SECDEF's Dynamic Force Employment (DFE) concept.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) consists of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 8, HST, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28 staff.

Harry S. Truman, named in honor of the 33rd United States President, was commissioned on July 25th 1998 as the eighth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
