Mill Hill

This Liberator was on a ferry flight from Burtonwood (BAD 1) to Hardwick (Station 104) on October 11th 1944 when it flew into rising ground near the 544-metre summit of Mill Hill. The two man ferry crew survived the crash with only minor injuries. The crash site is just over two miles from the Grouse Inn on the A624 Glossop to Hayfield Road.

The B-24J was being delivered to the 93rd Bombardment Group (H) as a replacement Pathfinder aircraft. Because of this it was fitted with the H2X Bombing Through Overcast (BTO) radar.
