USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77)

The Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) departed from Norfolk VA on January 21st 2017 for her third deployment, the second Norfolk carrier to deploy under the new Optimized Fleet Response Plan (O-FRP).

The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) served in the U.S. Fifth and Sixth Fleet Area of Operations (AOO) conducting maritime security operations, theatre security cooperation efforts and flying in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.

CVW-8 carried out over 1,900 combat missions totalling 12,603 combat flight hours and expending 1,717 precision-guided munitions while operating from both the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf.

GHWB made port calls to Souda Bay, Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP), Jebel Ali Port and Haifa before arriving in the Solent for a scheduled port visit to Portsmouth on July 27th.

USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) arrived back home after being deployed for 212 days, or exactly seven months, at sea on August 21st.

The George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (GHWBCSG) consists of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 2, GHWB, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 8 and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22 staff.

George H.W. Bush, named in honor of the 41st United States President, was commissioned on January 10th 2009 as the tenth and final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
